Sibling Rivalry – Interview
I give to you… Sibling Rivalry

Sweet dude, my name is Matt Wilson I play bass/vocals in Sibling Rivalry and I write all the lyrics.
How’d you come up with your name and what does it mean?
Matt: I guy who is no longer in the band came up with the name and the meaning kind of suits us quite well because we fight quite a lot and we are all like brothers hence sibling rivalry.
How long have you guys been playing together?
Matt:Since 1999
How’d you meet?
Matt: we all met at school and through surfing and stuff.
Where are you based?
Matt: Durban
What is your favourite song of yourselves?
Matt: Don’t really have one, although Durban Stone City is always a crowd pleaser.
Who is your biggest fan?
Matt: we don’t really have fans but people who enjoy our music and who have become our friends. i’d say the die hard Durban crew are our biggest friends (you know who you are)
Do you have groupies?
Matt: Can’t really say we do, although there have been a few moments.
What is the best place to gig?
Matt: Hard one, Cape Town is always really cool, no matter where we play and a cool Durban show is always a rocker. We don’t really like playing in Jozi though.
What was your best gig and why?
Matt: Could never answer this cause every gig has it’s moments although The Uprising Festival is always a good show.
Who is single in the band and who is in relationships?
Matt: Steves anbd badger have serious girlfriends.
Care to share anything that what funny that you experienced on tour or at a gig?
Matt: There are so many cool funny moments, the last tour there was a lot of naked behaviour going down, even infront of a bunch of arb tourists. I don’t know if that’s funny or just disturbing?
Which part of being in a famous band do you most enjoy?
Matt: hahahahaha, I don’t really think we are or ever will be famous we do quite a few shows around the country so naturally people know the name. Yet just getting to play shows and meet rad people who love what we do is great even though we don’t have the hugest following, wherether there are 50 or 300 people we will go just as off and hopefully people enjoy and appreciate the energy we put into our live set.
And which part do you enjoy the least?
Matt:Hhahaha, as I said before we are not really famous, but touring can be hard and sometimes playing shows in arb places, were the local bands don’t make you feel welcome yet most of the time we have a really cool relationship with whoever we work/play with.
How often do you Practice?
Matt: We don’t practice as much as we should because we are in other bands and also some of the guys have jobs yet we try and make it 2 to 3 times a week.
What do you do for a living if the band isn’t your living?
Matt: I’m a writer, I also help with the uprising festival, and I play in another band, yet all these things don’t really make me too much of an income so I’m pretty broke at the moment.
Do you make money?
Matt: The band makes enough money to survive and we are starting to do a lot better in this regard, we don’t make a lot of money but things are looking up.
What cds do you have out and where can we buy it?
Matt: New ep “Durban Stone City” which is going for R40 and is only available at our shows. Contorted Izingoma full length for R60 which is available at Musicland (Glenwood Village shopping centre durbs) Seedys (Hatfield square pretoria) Nifty Records (rad sa distro) Silent screams (Cape Town) and at all our shows.
How do you experience the scene? How do things look for SA music in the future?
Matt: I think things are tough in this country for musos, yet I also think things are looking up, we have loads of bands and a lot of them are really good. All sa needs is more people investing money into good up and coming acts. Yet sometimes I do also feel despondent about sa music especially in Durbs were we only have two regular venues and the sound is always bad. I think the rest of the country needs to take a look at Cape Town, I think they really have a strong music scene. Yet overall I’m positive about where sa music is heading.
Do you read?
Matt: I’m the only one, who really reads anything the rest just chill, yet I’m not the biggest reader yet I enjoy a good read every now and then.
What type of clothing do you wear and where do you shop?
Matt: hahahah, if we wern’t lucky enough to get all our clothing sponsored from Volcom we would probably just walk around in rags. Yar we all wear volcom (free stuff is good)
Where do you hang out?
Matt: Mainly the Winston pub, or parks, or parking lots
What does the future have in store for you?
Matt: Another full length and hopefully a tour overseas
Any plans on touring?
More sa tours (especially Cape Town) think we heading to Jozi soon and overseas is definitely in the cards if we can raise enough funds.
What do you do for fun?
Matt: Surf, skate, hang out with friends, smoke pot, the usual
Who is your fav SA Artist?
Matt: so many, so many, we love sa music and are influenced by a lot of great sa bands and artists.
Which SA artist do you dislike the most and why?
Matt: That’s a tough one probably all those hectic cheasy afrikaans singers on MK89 man a lot of those guys suck.
And if you wanna add something else please do so?
Matt: Keep it real, play music for the right reasons, play because you love it, not because of the success and fame, just play.

put a video together and get it on MK89 you lazy punks…you know you know the people and have the means.
Hey, wicked interview
. Keep the rivalry alive
