Desmond & the tutus interview

Had a long shitty day? I’d definitely recommend this band if you wanna turn that frown, upside down.
So here…get to know them a bit and give them a listen for an instant dosage of jolliness.
How long have you guys been jamming together?
We’ve been playing together for just under three years now.
Who does what in the band?
Nic plays the bass guitar.
Doug plays the electric guitar.
Craig plays the drums.
Shane pays the vocal.
Who or what would you say is your biggest influence/inspiration?
It’s hard to say. We all come from different musical backgrounds so we all bring bits and pieces from all sorts of stuff and throw it into the mix. Craig was quite into his dance music at one stage, Nic’s from a jazz background, Doug’s a Jimi Hendrix fan and Shane’s always dreamed of being a big time ghetto rap star. So add all that up together and you’ve got the wonderful mess that is Desmond and the Tutus.
What is your favorite song of yourself?
All our songs have a really special place in our hearts. I don’t think we could choose a favourite.
What has been your favorite gig to date and why?
Again, hard to say. We’ve played so many shows over the last three years that after a while they all blur to form one continuous three year gig.
Do you have groupies?
By groupies, you obviously mean ladies that follow us around on tour and make plaster of paris moulds of our privates? The answer is no.
How often do you practice?
Not often enough. We’ll start practicing again once we’ve got some new songs to practice.
September saw the release of your debut album “Tuck Shop”, how has it been received by fans and
critics?
Seems like everyone’s enjoying it. No one’s complained yet.
Any Tours coming up?
December we’ve got quite a big one. Durban on the 13th at Burn, PE on the 17th at Pool City, George on the 18th at Shockwave and Cape Town on the 19th at Mercury.
Any particular bands you like playing with live?
Anyone with a similar sort of musical mission to get feetz moving. So Eat This Horse and New Loud Rockets are big favourites.
Where do you see yourself in five years as a band?
Living off sweet, sweet royalties, not talking to each other anymore.
When and where can we catch you playing again?
After the December tour we’re probably going to kick back for a while and work on something new. So We’ll hopefully be touring a new little EP or something in March or April next year.
