ASHTRAY ELECTRIC & NEW HOLLAND with THIEVE

@ THE ASSEMBLY – SATURDAY 6 FEBRUARY

On Saturday 6 February,  The Assembly will play host to an incredible line-up of young talent. Hailing from the rock ‘n’roll mecca of Bellville, Ashtray Electric, New Holland & Thieve have all made a strong impact  over the past year or two, playing their parts in the quick-developing South African indie-rock scene.

ASHTRAY ELECTRIC

Ashtray Electric’s music is dreamy, moody and packed with riffs that resonate - and roll in a different direction. Simply by doing their own thing, Ashtray Electric, with their subtle and magical mix of musical influences, has over the past year continued to leave their unique imprint on the local music scene.

The band is also increasingly being invited to share the stage with top international acts– most recently DJ PhDJ (Australia), Johnny Foreigner (UK) and Balthazar (Belgium).

Recently nominated in the Skinny Jeans Tunes category of the 2010 MK Awards for the music video of “Quite Overstared”, Ashtray Electric has also recently released a music video for the song  “When Sex Becomes A Sport” – a lingering and poignant piece of visual art produced by African Attachment.  Expect some surprise cameo appearances and more than a few plot twists.

NEW HOLLAND

New Holland arrived on the SA rock scene in December 2007, and since then their irresistible and contagious brand of pop-laced rock has won them fans wherever they’ve have played. The band had a major radio hit with the song “Something  To Believe In” and have gained a reputation as festival favourites in a very short time. Signed to Rhythm Records since September 2009, this young band’s energetic live set is something to experience.
